Baptisms

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
~ Matt. 28:18-20

Baptism is an act in which the congregation welcomes disciples into the fellowship of the family of God. Presbyterians believe that God sovereignly leads parents to present a child for baptism, and the covenant extended initially to Abraham and Sarah, and millennia later, through Jesus’ apostles, lays claim to that child’s life. For those not baptized in infancy but ready to enter into the covenant either as a youth or adult, classes for them to prepare and the service itself seals the covenant in the pouring or sprinkling of the water on their foreheads. Also, of note, all persons baptized in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in any other church are welcome to reaffirm their faith and/or transfer from the earlier church to unite here with First Presbyterian. No re-baptism needed.

Contact the church office if you would like to talk to a pastor or elder regarding baptism.

Confirmation

Confirmation is a time when a youth, typically in Middle School or High School, embraces and enters into a personal committed relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord. Classes during a school year led by a pastor help the student to take hold of the faith for her- or himself. It enables a baptized person to confirm the promises made on their behalf at baptism. In the process, they enter into full membership in the church community.

For more information on confirmation classes here at FPC, contact a pastor or elder.

Christian Wedding

The congregation, Session, and staff of First Presbyterian Church welcome those planning to unite in marriage, and we rejoice that you have chosen to establish your marriage relationship in covenant with God and that you wish to celebrate this covenant in a service of worship. Marriage is a divine institution, established by God in creation and blessed by Jesus, his son, at a wedding in Cana of Galilee.

The place where your wedding will be celebrated is not a wedding chapel, but a church, a holy house of God set apart and hallowed. When you choose the First Presbyterian Church for your ceremony, you acknowledge that the wedding service is first and foremost a service of the church and a regular offering of worship.

Please download the FPC wedding packet that contains information and necessary forms to be completed and returned. Contact with a pastor shall ordinarily be made at least 60 days in advance of the wedding.
Contact the church office for any questions.
