Caring for One Another

Congregational Care

Just as God cares for us, we are called to care for each other. Compassionate care is at the heart of FPC’s community life. No matter what you’re experiencing—whether it’s joy, grief, fear, or life transition—or if you just need someone to talk to—FPC offers ministries that meet you where you are. It's a privilege to share each other’s joys and to walk through life’s challenges together. We are here to identify individual and family needs and then ensure that all are covered with the love and care of Christ. If you or someone you know needs support, please call the church office or email stuschak@fpckerrville.org.

Diaconate

Those who lead with care

The ministry of the deacon (as defined in our Book of Order) is one of compassion, witness, and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, the oppressed, those burdened by unjust policies or structures or anyone in distress. Our deacons assist with communion, visit the sick and those in need, communicate and take care of their “flocks”, and serve extended communion to our homebound members. They are truly the hands and heart of Christ.

GRIEF GROUP – Meets the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the Month, 10:00 am, Ryan Hall
Grief impacts each person in different ways, and the path towards healing is never smooth or predictable. Connecting with others in a safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment to share stories and receive support can help towards healing and recovery.

Grief is not the enemy, and the stories we tell determine whether or not we will heal. If you or someone you know is experiencing loss, we can help you through this difficult time by providing you with the support and resources that you need. Our group is led by skilled professionals in collaboration with Peterson Hospice.

We encourage you to attend according to need, with no fixed time commitment or agenda. Please call the church office (830-257-3310) for more information.

Special Groups

Stephen Ministry
Stephen Ministers extend the care of the congregations to those with a variety of needs.

First Presbyterian Church’s Stephen Ministry equips lay people to provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care to individuals in our congregation and community who are experiencing difficulties in their lives.
We all experience challenges in life – times when we could benefit from the support of a caring Christian friend. Stephen Ministers are ready to provide the emotional and spiritual care we need when faced with a crisis or difficulty such as –

  • loss of a loved one

  • hospitalization

  • divorce or separation

  • loneliness or discouragement

  • spititual crisis

  • unemployment or a job crisis

  • a terminal illness

  • incarceration

  • aging

  • birth, adoption, miscarriage, or infertility

  • a chronic illness

  • relocation

  • recovery after an accident or disaster

  • and many more.

Stephen Ministry is a confidential ministry: the identity of those receiving care and what takes place in each caring relationship remains private. Could you or someone you know benefit from the care of a Stephen Minister? Are you interested in becoming a Stephen Minister? Contact John or Nancy Mallory, our Stephen Leaders, at (830) 285-1201 or contact the church office at (830) 257-3310.
