The fall quarter for adult Sunday school will begin on Sunday, August 12.

Who Do You Say That I Am? - People have many idease as to the identity of Jesus.  In this class we will attempt to better understand Jesus as the Jew that he was and the Judaic faith that he practiced.  Our primary text will be Jesus, the Misunderstood Jew by Amy Jill-Levine, professor of New Testament Studies at Vanderbilt Divinity School.  We will also be informed by video lectures from Dr. levine and R. Bart D. Ehrman, professor of religion at the university of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  The class will be limited to 20 participants.  This class is led by Judy Ferguson in room 208.

Faith and American Politics: Liberty and Justice for All - It is a course of study, Discussion and reflection that focuses on the value of faith in the exercise of our citizenship.  Through the use of videos, small group work, readings and deliberate encounters with those of "other" ways of thinkng from our won, the theme examines:

  •            Our founders' understanding of liberty and how their founding documents seek to protect our liberty within

the government they created to serve the people

  •            The call of Jesus and the prophets fro just societies.
  •            Diverse Christian responses to these ideas.

The class will be limited to 21 participants and will require the purchase of a study notebook.  This class is led by Sonny and Elaine Payne in room 204.

Light and Mirrors: Christian's Creative Calling -
God the creator made us in His image to be creators, too.  In this Bible based class we will focus on artistic creativity, discussion what it means to create art, poetry, writing and photography to the glory of God.  Class members will be encouraged to respond creatively during the week - and have several opportunites to share their work throughout the session.  This class is led by Marcus Goodyear in room 207.

Images in Scripture - Though the books of the Bible contain a wide variety of characters and gernres, they seem to duster around some common images.  These images inturn point us to the great themes of faith.  While some BIble studies focus on particular ssections of Scripture, the Bible study will consider the entire Bible, noticing the recuring ideas and motifs that hold the whole story together.  The class will be led by Rev. John Wurster in Ryan Hall.
